Why not spare the dangerous frenzy before and now the tragic war with innocent victims by giving Russia renewed assurances that NATO will not expand further towards Russia? And if there are now “clever people” who point out that Foreign Ministers Genscher and Baker(USA), Chancellor Kohl and the US Presidents Bush and Clinton had “only” given this assurance verbally, then let us point to two events:
On the occasion of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, Kennedy had given Mr. Chruschtschow an oral assurance through his brother that he would withdraw US missiles from Turkey if no missiles were stationed in Cuba. Chruschtschow believed the US president, and he kept his word.
NATO did not keep theirs. The West must intervene in the whole cascade of anti-Russian propaganda to protect the supposed victim. The situation has escalated dangerously, with the US only adding fuel to the fire.
All that is being done is to go for total confrontation and escalation. It’s time to shut down this heated, hysterical spiral to become clear-headed again. One must always try to keep a line open for talks and offers. Russia is being driven more and more into a corner, and in the end, there will be no air and no reason left.
